Unpredictably nomadic in the most jovial way possible, the Kampong Boogie party series has been keeping punters on their toes with its ever-changing locations. In a city where land is scarce and nightlife restrictions are tight, promoters like them are what keep the scene abuzz with restless excitement, alongside these other pop-up parties and collectives in Singapore.

So when I tell you that there’s going to be a fiesta in an industrial wholesale centre on 30 August, you can be certain that it’s one rarity of a rave. In this next ambitious initiative, Kampong Boogie is occupying Victoria Wholesale Centre (a purveyor of dried goods) for the first time. On the decks, expect a series of dizzying B2B tag-teams between DuriO and KINNIE, and A/K/A Sounds and Joshua P. Master veteran Ramesh is also slated to perform, with Kampong Boogie’s charismatic emcee, SWTLKR, on trusty vocal duties. In other words, you’re in for an open-format crusade that encompasses funk, disco, hip-hop, jungle, and who-knows-what.

“It’s a new zone, a new future, with new sounds,” states Vijay Singh, AKA SWTLKR, on the upcoming endeavour. “Anything and everything is possible as we try to reframe realities.”

As for how these promoters stumbled upon this unconventional venue in the first place, co-founder, Meza, casually jokes, “We take refuge on random rooftops on some nights, being the kampong nomads that we are.”

Or, at least I think he’s joking.
