A record store is as valuable as the rarities it stocks and the culture it adds to its home scene. The Analog Vault, since its establishment in 2015, is undeniably one of such entities. With its lauded brick-and-mortar store at The Esplanade, which frequently hosts pop-up showcases featuring guest selectors, The Analog Vault is a staunch purveyor and promoter of vinyl culture that peddles everything from jazz and electronica to treasures in the never-ending between.

Because sometimes, you have music containing elements so elusive, that pigeonholing it into any singular genre does it no justice. The Analog Vault believes in shunning this limitation, and that is one reason why they’ve recently launched their new independent record label, TAV Records. On this embryonic platform, TAV Records aims to showcase progressive sounds from Asian artistes, and allow them to distribute their craft on the tangible, re-flourishing medium of vinyl.

And when it comes to progressive musicians, I can really think of no better example than the oft-experimental and quixotic artistry of Fauxe. Having dabbled in abstract territories of instrumental hip-hop and electronica, the formerly-masked, homegrown producer unleashed a masterpiece in 2018 titled Ikhlas, which boldly fused traditional Malaysian folk music with contemporary beat-centric textures derived from hip-hop, footwork, and even disco.

Now, courtesy of the visionary support of TAV Records, Ikhlas is getting its second wind with a vinyl re-launch show at White Label Records on 6 July. Fauxe, together with his new band, Altruism, will bring this record to life with a live, improvisational performance utilising the samples used in its construction. This will be preceded by a musical workshop, which offers a rare glimpse into the mind of this production whiz, and other left-field showcases from Zeekos Perakos and Hell Low. Bongomann, a familiar face at The Analog Vault, closes the night.

The Analog Vault Presents: Fauxe – Ikhlas Vinyl Release, 6 July 2019, White Label Records, #01-01, 28 Ann Siang Road, Singapore 069708. To purchase tickets, head to this ticketing website.
