Music matters, and that’s more than just a de facto motto for all you music junkies. Music Matters of course refers to the massive industry event that adds legitimacy to the music scene for businesses, creators and audiences across the community. The multifaceted event has been an ardent staple of the local scene, turning heads as a B2B music conference and also its flagship music festival that’s typically run over several days. This year is no exception and it’s prepping one mighty tune.

Music Matters Live – the event’s festival arm – features over 50 artists from 16 countries all across the region and beyond. The festival’s absolutely free to enter, taking place once again in the nightlife hub of Clarke Quay. Genres often flip and switch at Music Matters Live and you’ll bump into everything from indie rock and J-pop to folk and hip-hop. It’s a stuffed lineup that includes homegrown acts Abangsapau, Count Vernon, Marian Carmel, Alpyh, Josh Makazo, Rangga Jones, Matilde G, Shye, Shazza and more; and other international big-timers like PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE (Japan), Good Morning Everyone (Indonesia), Dhruv Visvanath (India) and LEMONY (Thailand).

Happening for four days from 8 to 11 May, Music Matters Live features curated showcases as well in selected institutions. Aside from the Fountain Stage in Clarke Quay, you’ll stumble upon complimentary gigs at Phuture, Phil’s Studio, IKI and 1880 which is hosting a special showcase from hip-hop imprint Def Jam SEA. It’s like a musical discovery box-o-chocolates and you’ll never know what you’re gonna get.

Music Matters is one part of CreatorWeek organised by Branded, which is also providing a platform for CreatorWorld, AI Matters, Learning Matters and It’s A Girl Thing. Think of it as an ultimate suite of conferences and activities designed to celebrate the creator community and economy in the region. It’s a lot to take in, but you can find out more here.
