PeaceOut: Bring The Roof Down Organises A Farewell Mall Festival For Peace Centre
There goes another one. In the path of ceaseless gentrification, another longstanding mall is being poofed from existence. But despite this closure following a run of over 40 years, Peace Centre is not going down quietly. Instead, the storied establishment wants you to make plenty of noise at the PeaceOut Festival.
Organised by the Bring The Roof Down initiative – a new group dedicated to reviving iconic urban spaces in Singapore – PeaceOut Festival hopes to give Peace Centre a fitting curtain call as it rides off into the sunset, following other pop-up events such as Outer Bounce and Deep Cuts. Happening on 27 January, PeaceOut is a large-scale endeavour that involves a motley crew of key players who are combining their powers like party planeteers. PeaceOut comes to life as a united front between talent collectives like The Nocturnals Movement, UNLEASH, and New Nakhra (formerly known as AfroDesi); as well as wine brand PengWine and grassroots social movement PlayPan.
With a lineup of 16 DJs and 11 performers from different collectives, PeaceOut delivers a diverse soundtrack spanning hip-hop, reggaeton, Afrobeat, desi, house, techno and more. Other participating partners include Agitar with DJs Nadd and Ollie’des; Pandemic with DJs Raw, Cherish and Jose; House of Heals representing Bangkok’s drag scene; and Blackout Agency that’s locked in Demi Riquísmo as its headliner.
All performances will be scattered across different rooms in Peace Centre, echoing the efforts of The Last Mile which sent off Golden Mile Complex last year. So get explorin’, and give Peace Centre the send-off salute it deserves.
