After More Than 100 Shows, Therapy Room Is Throwing Its 1st Anniversary Party
In what seemed like a perpetual shadow of darkness, they shone through with glimmers of hope. Even though the scene is currently overflowing with rave activity, it’s hard to forget the traumatic plume that smothered it during the pandemic. But for one whole year, the big-hearted team behind Therapy Room came through with an initiative that asked a battered, splintered DJ community one crucial question: “Are you okay?”.
Its rigorous episodic programme comprised digital broadcasts of recorded live sets, featuring a cornucopia of Singapore-based DJs across a wide spectrum of genres. But aside from the eclecticism in soundtracks, what made Therapy Room really stand out was its raw and in-depth Q&A segment. Moderated by the Therapy Room hosts, these interview sessions addressed the mental health of the DJ community, a topic that was often overlooked by an authority that shunned the significance of nightlife in Singapore. Therapy Room provided an avenue for these victimised DJs to vent and not just through music, where they could share their experiences surrounding shattered careers, strained relationships and a soul-denting loss of creative expression.
Now over 100 shows later, Therapy Room is finally free to step out of the room and into the club. To mark its one-year anniversary, the crew will be throwing a thank you party at Iki on 19 November. Slated to be an immersive audio-visual spectacle, this celebratory gig showcases a lineup encompassing past performers including Raja Rani, Shaun Nocturnals and Josh M, alongside Therapy Room’s own ensemble of residents. Strap in for a voyage spanning house, melodic techno and other four-on-the-floor goodies, now coming to you live beyond the camera.
