The ‘GOATs’ of Singaporean grindcore are back in business. Six years after their last album, Voices, the rambunctious trio of Wormrot will release their fourth full-length titled Hiss.

The offering represents a comeback chapter for the hardcore titans who possess a sterling career with global repute. Arguably one of the most successful exports from the Lion City, Wormrot have toured relentlessly around the world with their incendiary performances, including a legacy-defining spot at the coveted Glastonbury Festival. And after a brief hiatus, they’re about to unleash their anarchic antics yet again.

To drum up hype for the upcoming album – produced by homegrown legend, Leonard Soosay – Wormrot have released a conceptual music video titled the Grieve Trilogy, which features three of its included works. Showcasing “Grieve”, “Weeping Willow” and “Voiceless Choir”, the trilogy is a furious barrage of blistering guitar hell, thunderous and speedy drums, and vicious vocals that screech and growl with dynamite-level explosiveness (in spite of the vocal injuries suffered by Arif Rot). It also shows the band venturing into experimental territory, roping in unhinged yet deft stringwork from 18-year-old violinist, Myra Choo.

The video that accompanies this triple threat is a crime-themed narrative pinned with tropes of corruption, murder and revenge. The film portrays the bandmates as seedy antagonists, and it is also a nod to Asian cinema cult classics with its vintage-styled execution. “Combining three songs to tell a single continuous story, this trilogy portrays the unnamed protagonist's vengeance on the corrupt cops who plotted the murder of her lover,” describes guitarist, Rasyid Juraimi.  “We pay tribute to ’70s Japanese crime movies and two of Singapore's own TV series, Triple 9 and Crimewatch which we grew up watching."

Do Wormrot get their just desserts? You just have to watch to find out.
