The Island Collective Introduces A Bold Gig Format With Mystery Lineups & Intimate Venues

Some gigs are best enjoyed with a tinge of mystery. Imagine signing up for an intimate concert with no more than a hundred guests and with no clue about the performer lineup. And instead of a typical staged hall, you’re invited to soak up some sounds within a homegrown gin distillery of all places? If you like some surprise in your night out, The Island Collective is introducing a worthy wildcard format in their freshly minted events.

Inspired by other cosy show series such as Sofar Sounds and Tiny Desk, The Island Collective launches a series of live performances with a strict capacity cap and a nomadic venue approach focused on out-of-the-box venues. It unveils its inaugural edition on 18 January at Brass Lion Distillery, featuring three unannounced musicians flown in from around Asia for a two-hour set of originals. The clandestine lineup underscores The Island Collective’s bold concept, and it has teased that one can expect everything from cumbia and neo-classical to country and indie at its events. Spoiler: the upcoming debut will deliver a showcase of R&B, hip-hop and ‘cinematic sounds’, or so they say.

The event has more tricks up its sleeves, with early-arriving attendees promised an exclusive distillery tour before the music kicks off. Art is another defining accent of the collective’s vision, and there will be regional artworks auctioned off at every event; all art pieces will only be exhibited once, so here’s your chance for a rare snag. And if you thought the music ended with live musicians, the collective keeps the evening going with a tech-house set from DJ Vinayaka, reinforcing their multi-genre programme. Truly anything goes here, but aren’t random nights often the best?
