15-Min Flash Mix E1: Sivanesh Kicks Off Life In Arpeggio’s New Series With A Twist

If you had 15 minutes to create a journey through music, what hand will you play? This is the ideology that flows through Life In Arpeggio’s brand new series, the 15-Min Flash Mix.

Every week, a local DJ, producer or musician will be invited to assemble a guest mix within the approximate time span of 15 minutes, showcasing their discerning selection capabilities and mixing techniques. You might stumble upon tracks that’ve influenced their artistry, or songs that they happen to be vibing with lately; anything goes in the 15-Min Flash Mix, as long as they stick to the time limit.

Kicking off the 15-Min Flash Mix is a loyal trooper of the DJ community, the inimitable and irresistible Sivanesh. Well-versed in luscious house cuts and groovy doses of techno, the veteran has spun at venues like Headquarters, Tanjong Beach Club and Kilo Lounge. His most renowned residency lies with CÉ LA VI where he dominated the main room week after week, even curating the soundtrack of the institution’s Sky High Brunch series. It was here where he famously opened for The Martinez Brothers’ sky-high set organised by the globetrotting Cercle crew, which helped put his name on the worldly map.

Today, Sivanesh is one-half of promotion duo, Sivilian Affairs – together with partner Lilian Hautemulle – that specialises in intimate parties with an emphasis on minority local and regional talents. Their plans have been simmering in the languor of the pandemic, but rest assured that they’ve got big things waiting to erupt once things start to recover.

In the debut episode of the 15-Min Flash Mix, Sivanesh has pieced together a housey sojourn that explores jazzy chords, soul-dipped vocals and brassy hooks. This is one pouncy set that’s got a nice mix of mellowness and energy, and is a smooth way to introduce the 15-Min Flash Mix.

The launch of the 15-Min Flash Mix also happens to tie in with the third consecutive year of Life In Arpeggio. As you’d know, the past pandemic-stricken year has been a rough ride for the Singaporean music scene, and these tremors have, too, been felt by Life In Arpeggio. While there continues to be a wealth of content – from the emergence of new musicians to unique means of adaptation in the electronic sphere – it’s just not the same without the ongoing buzz of parties and events that motivated Life In Arpeggio’s creation.
