15-Min Flash Mix E45: Dee Mish-Mashes Singaporean Hip-Hop Rappers & R&B Singers
We’re flipping to a different channel this time round as we hip-hop into episode 45 of Life In Arpeggio’s 15-Min Flash Mix. Steering this ship is Dee, a local hip-hop and r&b DJ who’s been gradually rising through the ranks. You might’ve seen her scorching the decks for Groovetop, Wild Pearl, Secret Pals or Draft Land where she holds a residency, or as one part of the new genre-fluid Sunny Side day parties. Dee’s love for r&b and hip-hop is apparent in her selections and performance, and she pours this passion into her 15-Min Flash Mix.
For the first time, we have a 15-Min Flash Mix that focuses primarily on hip-hop and r&b songs, and it’s also a bountiful showcase of Singaporean talent. Dee has generously delivered a mix of cultural fusion and cross-scene immersion, mish-mashing international songs from the likes of D’Angelo and Victoria Monét with offerings from homegrown rappers, singers and producers. Dee features a highlight reel of talents including Sharbil, Miikothe13th, BGourd, Tengy, Khally, Martin Spacely, Bazeel and Mediocre Haircut Crew; while promoting promoters such as prodbydan, Faiz Shamir, Fauxe, Halal Sol and Amos Ang.
The result is a well-blended collage of edits, classics and even unreleased tracks. Dee has ingeniously carved a crash course for those unfamiliar with Singaporean r&b and hip-hop; a stuffed 12-track showcase that wears its stars and crescent proud. Dee’s 15-Min Flash Mix is gooey, melty and smooth like butter, dripping as it flows across soul, r&b, new-age hip-hop and lo-fi boom-bap. It’s a flash mix we’ve never received before – anything goes in this series – and for its patriotic flair, we find it absolutely Dee-lightful.
