*SCAPE Music Day Out!: A Virtual Festival Of Local Gigs Paves The Way For Youths
Amongst the youth, *SCAPE has been an institution that’s persevered, boosting urban cultures ranging from skating to sports. Since its launch in 2007, music has also been a throbbing blip on the organisation’s radar, hosting events that cultivate local original compositions such as the scene-approved *SCAPE Confessions series, a recurring showcase that welcomed performing musicians from all sorts of genres. It was foundational steps like these that gave the music scene confidence in *SCAPE, and today, that confidence continues to well-founded with *SCAPE Music Day Out!.
On course for its sophomore edition from 16 to 18 October, *SCAPE Music Day Out! is using its network to prop up the local music scene in this harrowing period, by connecting artistes to new audiences, hosting conferences with insiders, and even linking up wannabe musicians with key partners in the industry. A ray of light for aspiring songwriters, this opportunity will see shortlisted participants – following a round of demo drops – mentored by experts such as Leonard Soosay, Gareth Fernandez, FAUXE, Intriguant, Foxela, ZIONN and more. It marks a dream tie-in for music-minded youths, exemplifying the encouraging and fostering nature of *SCAPE.
But what does this event mean to the casual spectator? *SCAPE Music Day Out! has an additional role as a platform for discovery, inviting viewers (in the digital space) to get familiar with a new breed of indie musicians. Sway to the enchanting synth-pop of whirring, brace yourself for the tight rhymes of Tengyboy, pogo along to the gnarly garage rock of BAD DOD, or get captivated by the mellifluous r&b of Advaitha; all that’s just an inkling of what’s in store over the three-day schedule. To top it off, these bright up-and-comers are lined up with established veterans, including industry heavyweights such as Caracal, .gif, Tim De Cotta & The Warriors and Bakers In Space.
With *SCAPE pulling out all the stops to inspire and connect, it’s safe to say that the youths of the local music scene are in good hands.
