We’ve dwelled on the rise of queer parties in Singapore creating a safe haven for LGBTQ+ communities, and how that beautifully echoes the inclusive origin story of electronic music. In fact we’ve seen an uptick of LGBTQ+ parties lately with a healthy variety, ranging from fiestas with Old Way Vogue battles to underground raves dedicated to disrupting the status quo of queer parties. Well right now, you have the seething inferno of Agni, a fresh advocate with a mission to create a safe space for queer Indians in the party scene. The time is ripe for self-expression and embracing your identity, so the arrival of Agni is very much welcomed.

Agni was formed primarily for queer individuals who love Indian music, but never could find a club or party spot where they could let loose without judgment or harassment. Yet despite the niche, Agni has expressed that its doors are open to everyone, no matter your gender or race. You just gotta pass the vibe check.

Agni’s a relative fledgling with its inaugural event launching in November last year. It debuted with its Magic Masala concept at The Projector’s No Spoilers Bar at Cineleisure, programmed with a fusion-focused blend of Indian and English music. Agni events also place an emphasis on Indian and contemporary dance and drag performances from Indian artists, elements that were unleashed in full glory at their sophomore event earlier this month, Pink Pongal. You can watch the shimmering and splendid action below.

The proliferation of safe spaces is exactly what the nightlife scene needs, and Agni is admirably venturing one step further with its concept.
