Who Is dreamcastmoe? Darker Than Wax Wants You To Know With Its Upcoming Gig
If there’s one thing Darker Than Wax is good at, it’s educating communities with the power of the beat. The record label and event promoters have been on a roll lately since the comeback of party culture in Singapore.
It recently threw its debut revelry at Orh Gao Taproom, a craft beer waterhole. Its beloved BREW block party series returned with a bang, and there’s apparently another on the way in late August. And flying the local flag high are its rostermates who’ve been booked for several overseas gigs in the coming months. Darker Than Wax has been hurtling forward like a bullet train that can’t be derailed, and this momentum is now culminating in its first overseas booking in over two years.
To commemorate this, DTW is setting up its signature shenanigans at Projector X: Riverside, the go-to party pad for numerous collectives in recent months. Performing on 29 July is Washington’s dreamcastmoe, making his debut on Singaporean soil. Like the icon of the Sega console that his moniker is inspired by, his sound is a swirly amalgamation of vaporous electronica, gossamer chillwave, woozy funk and dream-soaked soul. He combines heady vocal textures with soothing soundscapes that are both groovy and groggy. Shelved under this project are numerous releases that’ve made waves since 2017, including his The Lost Tapes full-length series that exhibit his fidgety diversity.
dreamcastmoe is just the icing on the cake of this significant gig. In true DTW fashion, the label has filled the bill with other performances from its roster. Accompanying the international headliner will be a B2B blitz from co-founder Dean Chew (FKA Funk Bast*rd) and Dexter Colt (FKA William J), alongside a live tag-team act of Bongomann with his hardware and Fzpz with his jazz guitar prowess. With all of these acclaimed maestros stuffed into one evening, you’re guaranteed a shindig that’s engineered to make you move.
Darker Than Wax presents dreamcastmoe, 29 July 2022, 10pm-late. Projector X: Riverside, #04-13 Riverside Point, 30 Merchant Road, Singapore 058282. Book your tickets here.
