Hyperfocus: These Promoters Redefine Post-Modern Club Sounds For A New Party Frontier

Gone are the chin-stroking close-minded days when you’d rock up to a party and expect to only hear one homogeneous sound throughout the night. The current contemporary milieu – especially within the Gen-Z gigscape – thrives on trip-you-up divergency that sweeps you with a mish-mash of genres. Such is the impetus for post-modern club music where anything can happen, and that’s the lifeblood of Hyperfocus events.

It's hard to place a finger on Hyperfocus given the nonconformist nature of their dancefloor antics. You’ll essentially bump into anything at Hyperfocus – not just referring to the colourful characters here – bouncing between disparate genres like guaracha and hardcore, Jersey club and baile funk, ambient and donk. Yet it’s like inserting a mismatched key into a lock that somehow opens; Hyperfocus has opened the door to a novel sort of club sound and the community is trickling in. And it’s been a deluge of hype that’s run across a stream of past events in the last year, uniting like-minded homegrown upstarts and international eccentrics like DJ G2G, LU2K and Bclip.

Now if all that’s tickled your brain, Hyperfocus is having another signature shindig called BIONIQUE, inspired by the idea of an organic-meets-synthetic dystopia. Taking over the space of Iki that it’s used regularly as its Hyperfocus haunt, BIONIQUE delivers the Hyperfocus high with the headlining, Athens-based Evita Manji who’s scheduled to perform a hybrid set filled with maximalist synths, distorted vocals and body slam percussions. Supporting the night is an equally eclectic lineup of local selectors and producers – GODKORINE, Vangoth666, Xunat and Hyperfocus resident Tempolaree – who will keep you plugged into their manic mystery box of new-age club choons.
