66 Kampong Bugis is quite the buzzy address for people well-versed in the shakings of the scene. Walk past the alfresco habitat of Raw Kitchen Bar – another events venue staple – and ride up the elevator, and you’ll be transported to Etta, a stylish and sophisticated locale that confidently describes itself as “a creative’s loft penthouse”. It’s an apt descriptor that nudges the cogs of inspiration amongst any who lays eyes on its attentively-decorated layout, from its space age-influenced grid ceiling to custom-designed banquettes fitted with the cloth of an ’80s automobile.

It’s the kind of warm welcome where you can almost envision Etta cooing to you, “welcome to my humble abode”, except you’re well aware it’s a loaded statement overflowing with modesty. Upon a first glance of its orange-hued blueprint, Etta is hardly subtle, but captivating event spaces hardly are.

Etta first arrived in mid-2022 with quite the pedigree. Promoted as a part-lounge, part-event space, part-music venue and retail-slash-design incubator, Etta follows in the big footsteps of hospitality honcho Gibran Baydoun, who was instrumental in shaping the identity of private member’s club 1880, as well as Lucali BYGB and Corduroy Palace that are all part of the same BYGB lifestyle group. Etta is perched firmly within its famed venuegrounds – cherished as the former space of the old Kilo Lounge – and it’s a place that pushes the ambit of possibilities. Enhancing the experience of this abobe, embellished by artists-in-residence, is an elevated level of culinary prowess that flaunts crudos, sushi and other raw bites. Private lunches and dinners are even customisable for the event of your choice, turning your affair into an occasion of affluence.

With a standing capacity of 200 and seating of 50, Etta has utilised its spaciousness to play its part to foster the music community. Like its sister establishments – Lucali BYGB with its disco and soul brunches, and Corduroy Palace with its live jazz sessions – Etta has not been shy in its experimentation with music programming. In recent months, the open-minded venue has hosted vintage city pop nights, throwback fiestas with guilty pleasures, and niche disciplines like UK garage showcases. Local gig promoters have begun to notice Etta too, with the space becoming a pop-up party pad for organisers like Groovetop and Sivilian Affairs.

Etta’s potential as a party hideout is apparent, and if it continues pushing itself as a haven for creative ideas and epiphanies, it could make the boldest of events feel right at home.
