Japan’s Rainbow Disco Club Is Coming To Singapore For This Ice Cream Sundays Fiesta
The cream team of Ice Cream Sundays have always sprinkled their events with special toppings (the DJ, aside) every now and then. Beyond the nomadic, enlivening entertainment of its resident selectors in outstanding locales, ICS has frequently opened its arms to guest acts to perk up its programming. From the elation of French collective La Mamie’s to the world-class touch of Hong Kong festival Shi Fu Miz, Ice Cream Sundays often tosses in elements of inclusivity and surprise, and it’s now doing it again with one of Japan’s most famous music events. All the way from the countryside of Higashi Izu, Rainbow Disco Club is coming to Singapore.
On 1 April, the triple-scoop trio of Toppings, Muto and Bongomann will be joined by two of RDC’s orchestrators, weeks before the annual, celebrated jamboree in Japan on 29 April. Representing the RDC roster is Sisi, a house and disco culture-pusher whose accolades include founder of record label Timothy Really, and booking manager at Seco Bar that’s been a Shibuya institution. Joining the ensemble is fellow RDC resident and designer KIKIORIX, whose mastery of sounds have landed him gigs in Rush Hour’s Somewhere in Amsterdam, Fabric, Tresor, Space Ibiza and Fuji Rock Festival. Together, they’ll be dishing out an authentic preview of the RDC ethos; a legacy that’s been energising the global festival circuit since 2010.
Ice Cream Sundays’ events hardly ever stay in one spot, and this event doesn’t deviate from the formula. However, for those of you who’ve constantly missed the opportunity to party in Haw Par Villa (the demonic theme park that’s been given a new breath of life in recent months), this event is giving you one more shot. For this Ice Cream Sundays event, they’ll be taking over a different part of the folklore-filled setting, now shifting the boogie from the Culture Courtyard to the Parents’ Memorial. Yet another monumental habitat, in more ways than one.
And to top it all off, ICS will be doing its part to make partying a more sustainable activity. Making its debut at this event is Nomad Solar Sound, a 100% solar-powered, mobile DJ booth and soundsystem. Built in France by Pikip, the eco-friendly equipment hopes to reduce the event’s carbon footprint while its partygoers leave their stomp-prints on the dancefloor. It’s one step closer to make partying a more responsible pastime in Singapore and we’re absolutely here for it.
