The lifeblood of the local gig circuit is flowing strongly again, evident in the burst of not just new promoters looking for their piece of the pie, but veteran promoters that’ve made surprising reappearances. Following an announcement marking the end of their hiatus, the scene now welcomes back Moonbeats Asia, an events entity that first emerged in November 2014. They’re now back on their rocketship for their first show in four years, and it’s a billing that’s blasting off with star appeal.

On 27 May, Moonbeats Asia brings back not one, but two of its alumni acts for a special duo performance. Attendees of past Moonbeats gigs will be chuffed to hear the return of electronic producers, Ryan Hemsworth and Giraffage, and they’ve recently united to form the project, Bodysync. On their Radio Active album which they released last year, they explore an uplifting collection of cosmic breakbeats, blustery nu-disco and sun-kissed house, sprinkled with iridescent vocal touches from the likes of Nite Jewel, Tinashe and Daniela Andrade. It’s a well-fitted combination of their individual fortes, and they now display in perfect synchronicity it for the first time in Singapore.

Moonbeats Asia has always held onto a unique niche when it comes to the acts they’ve brought down. The performers on their gig roster have been known to blur the lines between traditional DJ sets and ‘live’ producer showcases. Past instances of these hybrid maestros over the years have included Tokimonsta, Tourist, Kero Kero Bonito, Honne, Slow Magic, Bondax and Chrome Sparks.

For their Singapore performance at Tuff Club – the show is also a collaboration with Thugshop – Bodysync will be supported by a couple of homegrown electronic acts who’ve also dipped their mitts in production. Opening the show is Cayenne, the glitched-out hyper-pop persona of Celine Autumn from Sobs, performing together with bandmate, Jared. She’ll be joined by et aliae, whose sounds weld electronica with UK bass and r&b influences.

Moonbeats Asia x Thugshop present Bodysync, 27 May 2023, 9.30pm-1am, Tuff Club, #19-01, 138 Robinson Road, Singapore 068906. Tickets are available at this link.
