Always innovating, always surprising, the music industry keeps rising to the COVID-19 challenge like an unsquashable whack-a-mole. Prominently manifesting every year as a multi-day music festival in the local milieu is Music Matters Live by Branded Ltd, and it is, likewise, adapting to the constrained gig climate with an initiative that pushes the boundaries of digital collaboration.

Rolling out for the next six weeks (launching on 3 June at 10pm) is the sophomore season of Music Matters Live From Home, an episodic series that connects musicians across the globe, including singer-songwriters well-known within the local sphere. Featuring industry stars like Sezairi, Aisyah Aziz and Narelle, the series reveals a more intimate side of their performances, as they resourcefully exhibit their prowess in spite of the limitations from home. Veteran figure, iNCH, also returns this season, following an appearance in the series’ debut season that also promoted newcomers, Coming Up Roses.

This leg kicks off with a fresh arrangement, as Singapore’s very own RRILEY joins other musicians in the region with high-profile pop-punk group, Simple Plan. Together, they will all be collaborating live while co-performing the band’s 2011 single, “Summer Paradise”. How that gets executed amongst musicians delivering different styles and vibes remains to be seen, but it’s worth tuning into just to find out. To further assist these regional musicians in these troubling times, Simple Plan will be donating their artiste fee back to them for the collaboration.
