RENE has had quite the evolution. Not many singer-songwriters can hit that sweet spot in their sound that straddles between stadium-sized mightiness and tender intimacy, yet RENE has attained that remarkable balance through the growth of her career.

Following her sophomore Slipped Through My Fingers EP released last year, RENE continues covering all grounds with new single, “Overdue”, keeping the volume up with its shoegaze-inspired temperament. Indeed you have guitar lines coated with dreamy reverb effects, creating that impenetrable wall-of-sound ethereality that contrasts RENE’s light and clear vocals. It’s got verses with a fragility you don’t wanna burst, and a chorus that opens up the heavens with shatterproof presence – an anthemic formula to say the least.

“‘Overdue’ is about experiencing a beautiful, inevitable love but also the cycles of struggle that follow,” RENE shares about the song co-produced between her and Badrul Amin (motifs). “From personal experience, it often feels like the grass is greener on the other side when it comes to queer love and hoping for acceptance from your society. Writing about finding freedom is cathartic for me, sort of an exercise on envisioning a happier life for myself. If anyone listening has a similar story, I hope this song brings them peace in knowing that they are not alone in this feeling.”

“Overdue” marks a long but gradual path towards RENE’s long-awaited debut full-length which she plans to unveil in 2026. And if this meatier sound is an inkling of what’s to come, we can expect a RENE full of more surprises.
