Road To Sunda: The Novel Camping Festival Reveals A Bite-Sized Prelude This Year
History in the local party scene was made last year with the bold birth of Sunda Festival, Singapore’s first camping music event. For two days, Sunda transformed the off-city wilderness of Sarimbun Scout Camp into a captivating dreamscape, channelling a canvas of sounds including the vintage funk of ALI, the minimal expeditions of Fraktal, the house euphoria of DJ Masda and the pineapple electronics of Bottlesmoker. While ambitious and transparently cognisant of its areas of improvement, the inaugural fiesta left a mighty first impression to the attendees who were willing to rough it out and make the trip, with many – us included – intrigued to discover deets of the next Sunda. Well it seems like we have our answer, and it’s not a destination but a journey.
The Sunda captains have just announced Road to Sunda, a thematic bite-sized prelude to the next full-on Sunda slated for a long weekend in 2025. While it irons out its crinkles to become an even better event, it’s offering the scene a tantalising preview with a one-day, one-stage escapade on 5 October 2024 to keep the embers glowing. In case you’re wondering if you need to trek again to the far northwest of the isle, Road to Sunda is taking place in a more central location, in a locale that fans of Ice Cream Sundays – co-organiser of Sunda together with FuFu Creative – are pretty familiar with. Road to Sunda kicks off the quest this year at Haw Par Villa, a wild habitat in its own peculiar way.
Echoing its debut, Road to Sunda will showcase a miniature festival experience with live and spun tunage from homegrown and international guests. On the lineup so far are Jenn Chunes (Super Enjoy), Ramesh (Tropika), Jakarta’s Precious Bloom, Sunda Soundsystem featuring resident selectors, and an unrevealed special guest that’s being such a cheeky tease. Complete with all-ages activities, F&B options, and state-of-the art production, Road to Sunda presents a shimmering yellow brick road that welcomes all adventurers. And when you’re done frolicking and rollicking, skip over to the official afterparty at Tuff Club where the Sunda thunder don’t stop.
