5 Collectives, 15 DJs: Secret Garden Is A New Party Concept Taking Root In The Scene
The more seeds you plant, the greater the harvest. Likewise, gather a whole bunch of DJ collectives together, and you have an event with plenty of promise. Secret Garden is the name of this new gig concept that’s taken root in the scene, and it’s strongly linked to the spirit of collaboration that’s breaking down barriers and uniting the promoter community. It’s a breath of fresh air that stands out within an events circuit that’s inching towards a saturation point, adopting a win-win formula that reduces competition and amplifies exposure for its participants. You don’t just get one collective at Secret Garden. You get five.
Billed as an all-day marathon with two stages, Secret Garden features a quintet of party collectives who’ve all made strides in their own way. You have the big-hearted Therapy Room lads, born during the pandemic to highlight mental health issues amongst the DJ community. You’ve got .KRATE, the pop-up club experience kick-started by the techno-pushing folks at .KORSAIR. You’ve got YES YOU on board, known for their altruistic gigs that donate event proceeds to different charities. Fresh off their first anniversary, the Ciel Social crew will be delivering their organic, progressive and psy-influenced tunes. And then you have WM Records, a house and techno unit that’s been organising parties in Hong Kong and Singapore since 2017.
Individually, they pack a punch. But together, they’re executing a 12-hour combo scheduled from 4pm to 4am. Handpicked and curated by this stacked hodgepodge of crews are 15 DJs – ranging from established selectors like Shaun Nocturnals, Sivanesh and Taz Angullia, to fresher performers such as Chirag K and Monke. While the location hasn’t been officially announced (although the lineup artwork features a noteworthy venue partner), the event has teased a habitat set against the Singaporean skyline and underneath open skies.
Will a budding concept like Secret Garden flourish? With its arms interlocked with fellow players in the scene, it might have the right conditions to bloom.
