Asian Connection: Here Are All The Performing Acts For Sunda Festival’s Camping Music Event
As the inaugural camping season of Sunda Festival approaches, the full scale of its entertainment comes into full view.
Conceptualised from a meeting of minds between Ice Cream Sundays and FuFu Creative/Shi Fu Miz, the novel camping music event nestled within the wilderness of Sarimbun Scout Camp has rolled out the second half of its musical lineup. And as promised, it showcases a beefed-up ensemble of both live and electronic acts from the region. It’s a lineup that complements and augments the fantasy of Sunda Festival, pushing the boundaries of experimentation and free-flowing expression that matches the groundbreaking premise of Sunda.
Joining the second-wave lineup are trailblazers plucked from several bustling electronic scenes around Asia. From Jakarta comes the genre-straddling trio of Batavia Collective and the funk-/disco-infused energies of We Are Neurotic; both live acts primed to invigorate the forested festivities. Dita represents Bali as an accomplished resident of Potato Head, Kingston fronts Kuala Lumpur as a driving force behind fono, and Elaheh swings by from Bangkok pushing the sought-after sounds of the More Rice record label. Melbourne’s hitting the party with the house and techno selections of Toni Yotzi and Merve, as is Tokyo with the latest addition of DJ Masda who’s no stranger to the global circuit. Wrapping up the regional names is Bandung’s Bottlesmoker, whose unorthodox live acts are orchestrated with everything from synthesisers to pineapples.
Singapore’s coming in hot as well with Sunda’s new wave of performances. Several labels and collectives are uniting for this unique two-day programme, pushing house, disco, electronica and other avant-garde soundtracks. Hopping aboard the Sunda train are Daryl Knows (Darker Than Wax), Dexter Colt (DTW, Super Enjoy), El Professional (Super Enjoy), Ramesh (Tropika), alongside Kindergachy and RTJ from Strange Weather. Two more homegrown live acts have been added to the mix, including the ambient lullscapes of Kin Leonn and the jazz-juiced electronica of Fzpz.
The origin of Sunda Festival is inspired by the biogeographical history of Sundaland, an ancient landmass that once connected several Southeast Asian nations. Now with the full reveal of its programme, the concept of Sunda Festival is crystal clear – an Asian connection that’s bringing its scenes closer like never before.
