When Halal Sol cooks, you’re always gonna get a housey treat. The in-demand producer and selector hardly misses in the shots he takes, staying consistent with his penchant for deep, vintage house that’s forever timeless.

He’s back with another steamy offering fresh outta the oven, packaged as new single “Without That” with an extra remix on the side. The track is essential Halal Sol, brandishing his speciality with splashy hats, spry pianos chords, dissected sprinkles of soulful vocals, and a glowing, gooey synth riff that turns up the heat. And while the original possesses more classic tones, its complementary form – “Without That (speed additive mix)” – ups the tempo to match today’s turbo trends, with acid accoutrements and a particularly mischievous bassline that’ll slap on your stankface of approval.

No stranger to local record labels like Darker Than Wax, Halal Sol has now released this double platter on new imprint, Kopi Records. The producer’s contribution marks the debut signing of Kopi Records, run by co-founders Luca Di Parigi and Bunny Ross. Conceptualised between the two to push Southeast Asia’s producer community, Kopi Records launched in Singapore earlier in May to get the hype train going. Since then, it’s been putting the pieces together to push its signees, going as far as interview videos to bring audiences closer to its artists. It’s got a brewing pipeline of singles, remixes and compilations featuring homegrown and international producers, so keep tabs on these kopi kakis.
