ONE By Aldrin Commemorates Its 20th Year By Celebrating The Jiak Kim Street Years

To have love for the scene is to have respect for the foundation that built it. And if there’s one architect who helped pave the way for its success today, it’s a grandmaster who’s dedicated over three decades of his career to it – the ONE and only Aldrin. Out of the countless accolades he’s racked up throughout his storied journey, including an Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1, Aldrin is also the honcho behind his signature ONE brand that’s made strides as a record label and events promotion unit. ONE is fundamentally a key part of our local scene history, and it’s making its presence felt again with a big 20th anniversary celebration.

So big in fact, that Aldrin’s turning this birthday bash into an extended two-parter, with the first happening at 1880 on 12 August, and the second happening at a later date in October. From his announcement, it appears that nostalgia is set to be the primary theme behind the first event, fittingly titled ONE 20th Anniversary: Part 1 – The Jiak Kim Street Years. If you’re no rookie in the party scene, you’ll know exactly what Aldrin has in mind.
The event’s title is a throwback to the original home of Zouk, the same megaclub that opened in 1991 before shifting its premises to Clarke Quay in 2016. As a renowned resident DJ during the ’90s, Aldrin pushed ONE to become a crucial part of Zouk’s growth, shaping the identity of the establishment before the eventual arrival of EDM.

ONE’s 20th anniversary is a nod to these roots, and Aldrin has gathered an appropriate ensemble of industry legends from that era to perform. Aside from himself, Aldrin has invited other ex-Zouk residents, Andrew Chow, Brendon P and Tony Tay; as well as Jeremy Boon who’s still holding the fort. This dream team comprises selectors who famously helmed the three rooms of Zouk’s Jiak Kim venue, and they’ll be dishing out an assortment of electronic genres from yesteryear including trip-hop, big beat, breaks, disco house and old-school progressive house.
