This fledgling beatmaker is puncturing the producer circuit with some potent venom in his barb. His alias is Sgstingray, and he’s loaded a stinger with his new EP titled Becoming. Trained in traditional instruments and a proficient locking dancer, the music devotee shows some credible production panache in this four-track collection. Becoming is the culmination of his disparate electronic dabblings, materialising as experimental expressions that show a promising future for the DIY artist.

The EP doesn’t sit it one domain for too long, offering startling detours and daredevil risks that pay off. You’ll find SGstingray exploring propulsive big beat reminiscent of ’90s Chemical Brothers, venturing into techno territory with a pulsating psytrance bassline, and upping the audial lunacy with some glitchy jungle and deconstructed noise that’d sit well in a dystopian art gallery.
