Rising Arp: GOTHMYSTERYMAFIA Unleashes A Bass-Inclined Gang Of Genres On Debut Album
With the malleability of electronic music comes the prospect of mystery, where you never quite know where it’s going to take you. Wielding this allure is GOTHMYSTERYMAFIA, a nascent bass-inclined producer who manipulates sounds like a beat-bender, channelling their talents into an output that draws inspiration from the likes of Porter Robinson and JPEGMAFIA. It’s a rebellious wildcard approach that evolves with every release, and with their debut album NO FEELINGS ARE FINAL, this hybrid gambit dances clearly on the surface.
GOTHMYSTERYMAFIA has unleashed a Hydra-esque 11-track record that splits its heads in numerous directions, all while showcasing the artist’s prowess as a producer, vocalist and rapper. “Visitor” wraps sung alt-r&b verses of paranoia in a shell of clackety slo-mo beats and morose pads. “ALLFORU” is an instrumental of resplendent synths bashed about by battery bursts of distorted jungle. “YALLGOOD” goes full experimental hip-hop with a sluggish yet strident pace backed by guest rapper Ravisreal. And on closer “IMSTILLALIVE”, you get a soaring ambient prologue that dives headfirst into a hard house vortex, all before opening up into another rapped flurry. Does GOTHMYSTERYMAFIA stay in one place? Not one bit.
“The album is a personal chronicle of my mental health journey, centered on the idea that ‘no feeling is final,’ inspired by Rainer Maria Rilke’s poem Go to the Limits of Your Longing,” shares GOTHMYSTERYMAFIA who’s been releasing music as early as 2020 and DJs as one-part of the viral Four Teh. “This theme resonates deeply with me, capturing the kind of music that fuelled my passion for both sound and visual design.”
