Ice Cream Sundays & Darker Than Wax Invite You To Party At Haw Par Villa One More Time
You can’t take anything for granted in Singapore’s partyscape. A decent raveground is hard to find in the city’s crippling web of license-only venues, and when it comes to habitats that flip the formula, Haw Par Villa remains high on that list. It’s still a pretty surreal proposition years after its debut manifestation in 2019 – to bask in the aura of modern-day electronic dance music within the ancient-focused ambience of a folklore wonderland. That’s always been the charm of Haw Par Thrilla, the collaborative party series conceptualised by the Ice Cream Sundays dream team. And if you’ve yet to have a sniff of that spell, you’re welcome to give it another shot.
Now on its fourth edition, Haw Par Thrilla returns to Haw Par Villa’s Culture Courtyard, surrounded by your not-so-ordinary settings of deities and demons. Ice Cream Sundays summon the revelry once again with their buds from Darker Than Wax, revisiting their criss-crossing paths with past events including their Open Door series and a previous Haw Par Thrilla in 2022. One can always expect nothing but adroit deck mastery and crate-deep selections when they get together, and it’s prominent in its no-frills, all-ace lineup featuring a resident ensemble of ICS’ Bongomann, Toppings and Muto (he returns!); and DTW’s Daryl Knows, Dean Chew, Dexter Colt and Kaye. Who needs an international headliner when you have this super squad of homeboys?
Haw Par Thrilla emulates the appeal of a mini-festival in that its magic keeps you contained within its venue. And with Ice Cream Sundays’ acute expertise of organising events, they’ve loaded up plenty of preparations to complement the all-day tunes. Soak up the visual pizazz and production panache of worm.grrl, Jen O’Connor and UmamiFX. Feast up on South Indian-meets-Mexican dosa tacos from MahaCo by Yung Raja and Quan Ong, with a bevvie selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic offerings concocted with health and wellness in mind. Haw Par Thrilla also continues upholding its stance on sustainability with its solar-powered soundsystem from Nomad Solar Sound.
The hell gates of Haw Par Villa are opening again for a boogie. Don’t say we didn’t give you a heads-up.
