Tuff Club Resigns Its Old Concept And Relaunches For The First Time In Six Years

Sometimes the most spontaneous sparks burst into long-glowing sensations. The Tuff Club that nightlife patrons frequent today is adored as one of the scene’s current institutions for underground dance music, and one of Thugshops’ numerous ventures alongside Headquarters, MDLR and Higher Ground. But this longevity has been serendipitous, especially considering the fact that Tuff Club started out as an experimental pop-up concept in a Chinese restaurant back in 2018. First launched as a fitness-themed venue pushing local left-field acts, it fortuitously evolved to become a powerhouse of its own with historic performances from the likes of Marcel Dettmann, Peggy Gou, Lauer and Dax J.

Tuff Club has hosted international heavyweights such as Christian Smith and Dubfire

Now after six momentous years, Tuff Club is having a facelift that’s long overdue. Following a wrap-up party on 24 August – and a tricksy newsletter teasing “a goodbye to Tuff Club” – the Oxley Tower party nest is taking a short timeout to refurbish its premises. Come 6 September, Thugshop will be resigning its old concept and relaunching Tuff Club to augment its offerings and address concerns attendees have faced over the years. It’s a stance that shows Thugshop’s uncompromising commitment to giving its community the best experience that they deserve, and just one of the many reasons why the nightlife brand has endured for so long.

Always an iconic sight

The Tuff Club sound’s getting a boost with a new Funktion-One soundsystem, universally revered as staples in global clubs like Berghain (Berlin), De School (Amsterdam) and Pawnshop (Taipei). The dominantly purple-lit spot will be getting a brand new lighting system, a new DJ console and layout, more bathroom facilities (finally), and an additional bar to thwart bottlenecked queues. Thugshop recognises that its former rooftop terrace separated the crowds from the music, so it’s now transforming that into a revamped hangout patio where guests will be able to hear the music and enjoy patio-specific entertainment in the near future. And kicking off this next chapter, the new space will be having a weekend of hard-hitters with Afterlife’s Alfa Romero on 6th September and Berlin-based DJ-producer Curses on the 7th to test out the new Tuffgrounds.

Just like any exercise routine, change is always healthy. And for Tuff Club 2.0, they’re just starting to warm up all over again.
